Local Lifestyle

Marin County is a place where you can feel like you have it all—the ability to live in such close proximity to San Francisco while still enjoying a sense of peace and quiet. It's a place where the natural beauty is abundant, with the Pacific Ocean on one side and the gorgeous hills on the other. It's a place where you can enjoy mild weather, with temperatures rarely reaching above 85 degrees.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

If you want to be wowed, give your taste buds a treat and head over to Bungalow Kitchen in Tiburon, where you can try the mouth-watering flavor of a "lobster pot pie" or the just-as-delicious "crème brûlée French toast."

At Playa in Mill Valley, you can get your grub on with tacos that are as fresh as they are tasty, like the "Mezcal shrimp" topped with pickled red onions and habanero salsa. Or try the “Baja fish tacos” with avocado crema.

For some of the best sushi around, make your way over to Sushi Ran in Sausalito and order the omakase chef's menu—you'll get a different selection of sushi every time you go! (Just make a reservation at least a day in advance.)

To get your shop on, check out Marin Country Mart in Larkspur. The shops here offer everything from clothing for men and women and home goods to specialty items for babies and kids. You'll feel like you're walking through an upscale version of the mall.

Marin County towns like Downtown Mill Valley, Sausalito, and Tiburon have plenty of great shops and restaurants to keep you busy for days. You will find boutique stores with clothing, jewelry, and home decor, along with gourmet grocery stores, art galleries, and antique shops.

Things to Do

There's no better place to spend a Saturday than at the farmer's market. In Marin County, California, you can choose from three locations: downtown Novato on Sundays, San Anselmo on Sundays, and downtown Mill Valley on Saturdays. Seeing all the goods in person will make your mouth water, and these markets have a whole variety of handcrafted jewelry and clothing, too.

If you're feeling particularly creative or want to spice up your weekend with some art and music, check out the Sausalito Art Festival, where you'll find numerous artists displaying their work on the waterfront.

At Stinson Beach, you can enjoy the beach and sunshine, and at Muir Woods, you can enjoy a hike through the redwoods. When you're not hiking through the beautiful parks and beaches here, some of which are less than an hour from San Francisco, you can unwind in one of Marin's many theaters and concert halls. Check out the Marin Center for live performances, including concerts and comedy shows; the Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium for events ranging from lectures to concerts; or the Osher Marin Jewish Community Center for local theater productions.
